M&E System: The Next Move
The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) through the National Ecotourism Steering Committee (NESC) made
their next move in the development of ecotourism in the Philippines. NESC started
developing a Monitoring and Evaluation System at the national, regional, and
site levels which will provide the basis for evaluating and enhancing the implementation
of the country's national ecotourism strategy.
A Consultant was contracted to assist the NESC in drawing up the monitoring
and evaluation system. A survey is being conducted to start the process of coming
up with an inventory of initiatives that were completed, and on-going and are
proposed.
The surveys, which are conducted among regional ecotourism committees will be
significant for the monitoring framework which will provide the structure, parameters
and guidelines in monitoring and evaluating the projects and activities implemented
at all levels as well as set the basis for the mainstreaming of ecotourism at
the different organizational levels of the DENR-PAWB and DOT.
