M&E System: The Next Move

The Department of Tourism (DOT) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through the National Ecotourism Steering Committee (NESC) made their next move in the development of ecotourism in the Philippines. NESC started developing a Monitoring and Evaluation System at the national, regional, and site levels which will provide the basis for evaluating and enhancing the implementation of the country's national ecotourism strategy.

A Consultant was contracted to assist the NESC in drawing up the monitoring and evaluation system. A survey is being conducted to start the process of coming up with an inventory of initiatives that were completed, and on-going and are proposed.

The surveys, which are conducted among regional ecotourism committees will be significant for the monitoring framework which will provide the structure, parameters and guidelines in monitoring and evaluating the projects and activities implemented at all levels as well as set the basis for the mainstreaming of ecotourism at the different organizational levels of the DENR-PAWB and DOT.
